Though their season is nearing its final weeks, Cary Academy’s spring athletes are still hard at work.

The Varsity Baseball team has had a successful season so far. With a solid 7-4 record, the boys have had some big wins. Notable wins include an 8-3 victory over conference rival Durham academy, and blow out 11-1 and 10-0 wins against St. David’s School and Oasis Christian. The team will look to close out its strong conference play with a 2 final regular season games against Wake Christian this Tuesday and Thursday.

Composed of 13 underclassmen and only 2 seniors, the young Varsity Softball team has done well so far this season. With a 6-6 record, the girls have fought hard through some close losses, but have also enjoyed the high points. Three notable wins include a 16-11 victory over Ravenscroft, a dominant 16-4 win against Saint Mary’s and a strong 25-13 win over Durham academy. The girls will close out their regular season with 2 more games this Wednesday and Friday against Saint Mary’s and Ravenscroft and will await the news of their NCISAA seed.

The Varsity Boys golf team has been hard at work this spring. Playing over 11 matches in the regular season in all sorts of weather, this season has undoubtedly been a test of their toughness. Notable wins include a conference victory against Wake Christian Academy at Pine Hollow Golf course, and an impressive 30 shot victory over Grace Christian on their home turf, Prestonwood Country Club. Lead by a low scoring duo of Bryans, Bryan Wei (’22) and Bryan Fang (’23) have been key to the team’s success this year. After their most recent match, Coach Hicklin reflected on their impressive victory: “We had outstanding play by Brian Wei, who was the low medalist with a 2-under-par (34) round on the toughest course at Prestonwood (Highlands)! Congratulations, Brian! He was closely followed by Bryan Fang with on 1-over-par 37!” The team will play their final match of the season at Durham Academy’s home course before individual qualifiers head to the NCISAA state competition.

Two relatively new teams to the Cary Academy athletic program, the girls and boys lacrosse teams have already found success. An enthusiastic group, the Boys Lacrosse team’s season is highlighted by a 16-15 win over Cary Christian. The girls team holds a solid 6-4 record, with key wins against Saint David’s, Saint Mary’s, Forsyth Country Day, and Virginia Episcopal School. Best of luck goes to the Girls and Boys lacrosse teams with the few games they have left in the regular season!

The girls soccer team has worked hard this season. Comprised of only 5 upper classmen and 15 freshmen and sophomores, the team has really bonded and hasn’t let their youngness stop them. With an overall 3-9 record, their season is highlighted by a 5-0 victory over Grace Christian, a 9-0 victory over Southern Wake Academy and a 4-2 win over Rabun Gap. The girls have only 2 games left in the regular season–both at home. Make sure you go out and support your Lady Chargers soccer team in their final games of the season!

With 5 state championships and 10 TISAC titles, the Varsity Boys tennis team is one of Cary Academy’s most successful sports programs–and this season has been no different. With a 12-3 record, the boy’s season is highlighted by their stellar 7-0 record in conference play. Taking out school rival, Durham Academy on Monday, the team secured a season TISAC title. They have just one more home match left in the regular season for their senior night against Ravenscroft on Friday. They will then await their seed for the state tournament. Congrats on a great regular season good luck in the post season to the boys tennis team!

The Cary Academy Track and Field teams are no strangers to success. With 4 TISAC titles in the past 4 years alone, track and field athletes know what it takes to win. Both teams will seek to defend their conference titles next Saturday at home. As for conference predictions, season times currently predict Hannah George (’20) to win the 800m and 1600m and Gabby Matejowsky (’22) to win the 300m hurdles. On the boys side, Kenny Eheman (’21) is predicted to win the 1600 m, Russel Burns is predicted to win the 200m and Christian Sodano (’19) is expected to take home a conference title in pole vault. Best of Luck to the track and field teams at their conference and state meets.
