In mid-February, a few members of the new Model United Nations club and I attended our first ever Model UN conference. The conference, hosted by Duke University, took place at the Durham Convention Center and over 600 passionate students from across the country had attended, including CA delegates representing the countries of Turkey, Ukraine, and Egypt. Over the course of four days and seven two–and–a–half hour committee sessions, we debated current topics and created resolutions to solve the problems facing our countries, committees, and the world. Because this was our first conference, we were members of larger committees such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian Committee (SOCHUM). During our lunch breaks, we took time to explore the downtown area and to see what Durham had to offer. Overall, the conference was a huge success for the first year of our club, and we look forward to attending many more conferences in the future!
