I’m currently in an elective which I don’t like, so next year I want to switch to something else, but am not sure how I’ll like that. I know I can switch out in the first two weeks, but I want the credits. I also want a study hall so I can have a period on certain days to chill out and do work.
What should I do?
-Not Sure What to Do
Dear Not Sure What to Do,
As I had mentioned in last season’s edition of The Campitor, I suggest that you speak to the teachers and students involved with different C Block classes. For next year, you could try 2 different electives (t-th and m-w-f). If you don’t like one of them, you can switch in the first two weeks of a trimester. As for study halls, I think your best bet would be to take an elective that meets either 2 or 3 days a week. That way, you can have the rest of the days free for C-Block!
How many APs should I take next year?
-Anonymous
Dear Anonymous,
It completely depends on which APs you’re planning on taking. Don’t look at APs as a number, but rather an opportunity to challenge yourself and be exposed to college-level material. I think APs should be looked at on a case-by-case basis – the number of advanced classes you take doesn’t matter as much as how passionate you are about the ones you choose to take. For example, if you don’t like history, don’t force yourself to take APUSH! If you love Physics, take AP Physics. As for the workload, make sure you know that some courses are very reading/coursework intensive. Pairing multiple reading/work intensive APs would probably not be the best idea. I would suggest emailing the teachers of the classes you’re interested in and ask about how much reading per night/problem sets per night they assign so you aren’t taking a shot in the dark with course registration.
Does playing a sport look good for colleges? I don’t really want to play a sport, because I want to focus on my studies, but I am telling myself I should be active and have fun with friends. I’m scared I’m going to get too stressed and work will pile up.
What should I do?
-Wondering
Dear Wondering,
Colleges are really looking for people who are committed to what they are passionate about, so doing a sport shouldn’t really be for college reasons. That being said, playing a sport can be a great way to meet new people, get healthier, and de-stress after school. There are a lot of different time commitments when it comes to athletics, especially between JV and Varsity levels. If you’re not sure how much time a sport requires, you can ask the coaches or the members of those sports teams. As for school work, make sure you don’t have too much going on other than your sport. Be organized with your time, and take some free periods if you are really getting stressed out.
I pranked my friend yesterday and it didn’t go as well as I had intended. My friend is mad at me and I don’t know what to do!

Dear Anonymous,
We all have those experiences where things don’t go as planned. Just apologize to your friend and make sure you think before doing something that may hurt someone else!
