How fancy should your outfit for semi be?

-Anonymous

Dear Anonymous,

As the name suggests, the Winter Semi-Formal is a semi-formal event, so dress fancier than you would for a normal dance, but not what you might wear to prom. Dress code does still apply to the dance, but semi-formal is basically a level above what you would wear every day, so wear something you feel good in!  If you want to wear a suit, make sure your blazer and pants match! Also, wear an ironed button-down, a belt, and nicer shoes. If you decide on a dress or skirt, pick something you would wear out to a nice restaurant – prom style dresses would probably be a bit too much. Wear heels only if you know that you are comfortable in them or don’t mind taking them off in the middle of the dance. Really large, chunky jewelry might not be the best idea because it could hit you or someone else when you’re dancing. But most importantly, wear something you love, and have fun at Semi!

I’m a freshman and I don’t know what to do for C Block. Do you have any suggestions?

-Confused

Dear Confused,

One thing I love about Cary Academy is the variety of electives it offers, and as a freshman, you still have plenty of time to try out different electives and find what you love to do! If you’re having a hard time deciding on what you want to do, you can always try 2 or 3 different electives throughout the year. If you don’t know what interests you yet, I would suggest that you speak to people in different C Block classes and see if anything catches your attention. You can also look through the course catalog to find new classes that you might be interested in. For example, if you really enjoy your art class, consider taking a similar class like ceramics or drawing, and join the band or orchestra if you play an instrument.
