Cary Academy will strengthen existing relationships and build new connections to embrace multiple perspectives and opportunities.

Communicate

Improve access and exposure to Cary Academy news, events, and opportunities for participation in community life

  • Conduct an audit of current communications and restructure our systems to increase efficiency and visibility
  • Streamline, adjust, or create customizable communication tools that complement the needs and behaviors of the community users
  • Enhance the celebration of individual community member or team accomplishments across divisions in athletics, arts, academics, service, and careers
  • Seek out new and innovative strategies to increase community member participation and involvement in activities and events
  • Seek out new and innovative strategies to expose external organizations and individuals to CA news, events, and opportunities

Share

Establish an accessible network of Cary Academy community members to strengthen relationships and share expertise

  • Review, expand, and consolidate information collected during admissions process and maintained by Advancement and other departments
  • Survey members of our alumni, alumni parent, parent, employees, and board communities to collect and update levels of commitment, networked connections, and areas of expertise
  • Create and manage “contact and expertise” database for the purpose of creating internships or shadowing opportunities, learning about potential colleges or careers, enlisting presenters, conducting research, or enhancing learning

Connect

Seek out opportunities with other schools, organizations, and individuals to gather and share knowledge, inspiration, and innovations

  • Establish a DICE Fellows Program in which early career public/charter school teachers, supported by Cary Academy master teachers, spend up to a year teaching and learning on-campus
  • Host yearly on-campus or blended professional development experiences to share best practices and enhance learning
  • Expand partnerships to enhance programming and build shared knowledge through cohorts and faculty swaps at schools in the Triangle and beyond
  • Inventory current partnerships with businesses and universities and identify areas for further relationship building

Progress

Year 4 (2018-2019)

  • Reached full staffing for Communications Office and updated CA Weekly and social media usage with focus on adding video storytelling; released RFP for website redesign.
  • Developed admissions partnership with Parents of African American Students (PAAS) to recruit and retain students.
  • Reimagined summer programming to include partnerships with NC SLI, Dream Academy, and the Daniels Center.
  • Formed Triangle Debate League to connect CA debate team with students in schools without debate programs.

Year 3 (2017-2018)

  • Launch new branding guidelines, including updated Viewbook and Discoveries magazine
  • Refine CA Weekly to add deeper connections with CA programs
  • Role out internal communications plan to streamline usage of external and internal websites, data storage platforms, and calendars
  • Integrate PTAA into school’s budgeting process, to streamline fundraising and reporting protocols and communication and allow PTAA to focus more on building community
  • Partner on Youth Innovation Summit and local entrepreneurship challenge
  • Launch CA Fellows program to mentor mid-career new teachers

YEAR 2 (2016-2017)

  • Celebrated CA’s 20th anniversary throughout the year, with opening celebrations, a student/alumni TEDx, a musical revue featuring show-stoppers from past CA musicals, and a graduation speech from founder James Goodnight.
  • Formed a communications team to roll out a new CA Weekly email
  • Developed communications plan with new brand design and visual elements
  • Evaluated internal communication and calendaring systems, including use of web pages and online storage platforms

YEAR 1 (2015-2016)

  • Conduct a communications audit to understand the needs of our community.
  • Celebrate creativity and innovation at Cary Academy through a day-long community showcase as an update of our former Grandparents Day.
  • Implement a new student information system
  • Reorganize structures for planning and communicating events at Cary Academy.
