Process & Timeline

Cary Academy began to work on its 2015-2020 strategic plan in the fall of 2014. The current plan is the fourth in Cary Academy’s history. Among many other things, the most previous plan resulted in

  • a strengthening of our service and character development programs in both divisions,
  • a focus on systems to support diversity and inclusion,
  • and the development of our portrait of a student and portrait of a teacher documents and subsequent curriculum reviews.

Our current plan is being led by a Strategic Planning Committee of 24 members. The timeline of work was:

Data Collection (2013-2014 School Year)

  • Head of School employee focus groups
  • Head of School individual employee meetings
  • Data collection through AIM Survey and ISACS Community Survey
  • Board of Directors, parent, employee, and student focus groups

Planning Process (Fall 2014-2015)

  • Strategic Planning Committee retreat
  • Formation of action teams to develop strategies related to the four draft goals developed by the Strategic Planning Committee
  • Master Facilities Plan work begins

Feedback on Emerging Plan (Fall-Winter 2014-2015)

  • Feedback collection from employees on mission statement
  • Feedback collection from board members on mission statement
  • Open sessions for feedback on goals and strategies from board members, employees, parents, and students
  • Data collection and off-site visits by action team members

Finalizing the Plan (Winter-Spring 2014-2015)

  • Action team leaders and Strategic Planning Committee joint retreat where draft plan is approved for Board review
  • Board approved final plan consisting of goals and strategies
