The Year was 1996
It all began with two families. Jim and Ann Goodnight and John and Ginger Sall of SAS. On a peaceful evening on her back porch Ann Goodnight said – What if we could build a school based on accomplished faculty, interdisciplinary curriculum, and innovative pedagogy? What if we could create a community of global citizens committed to academics, service, and social change while, at the same time, recognizing the importance of centering the school on the concept of the whole child? What if tomorrow’s leaders began on an unassuming lot of fifty-two acres of undeveloped land here in Cary, North Carolina? 1997-1999
By July of 1997, along with administrators, eighteen staff and thirty-three faculty had been hired and 244 students were enrolled. The week of August 11th brought a frenetic pace of activity, but on August 18th the doors opened.
2000-2006
While the first wo years were filled with new experiences and the usual teething pains, by the third year the entire CA community was settled in and forging ahead with new events, traditions and most of all academic innovation and growth.
2007-2011
In 2007 the Cary Academy community came together throughout the year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the school. To kick things off, the students and employees formed a big 10 on the quad after the handshake ceremony.
2012-2016
The last era of our history began with our first major change in leadership. In 2012, we said a fond farewell to our founding Head of School, Don Berger, the leader who brought us through those initial formative years so successfully.
