Constantin Zodl

Born December 10 in Vienna, Austria, Constantin Zodl immigrated to the United states in 2013. He moved from Hong Kong to Florida, but shortly moved to Cary, North Carolina, where he remains today. He came to Cary Academy when he was 13, in the eighth grade. Coming to America was a big opportunity for him and his family to accomplish new things and allowed for Constantin to set goals for himself, that would not have been possible in Hong Kong. Constantin’s biggest challenge in coming to America was adapting to all the new social norms and expectations. It has taken him a couple years to adjust, but there are still things he does not understand about American society. In all his moving, Constantin has left many great friends behind. He is used to making new friends since he has moved so much, so when he came to America, he found many great friends who are supportive and appreciate him for who he is. He was lucky enough to undergo all these relocations with lots of mental and financial support. He understands how many immigrants aren’t as fortunate as him and is grateful for what he has.

In America, Constantin continued to play soccer, like he had through all his moves. Soccer has been the bridge between all his moving because he is able to put everything out of the way, and just play the game. He says in all countries he has played in, the game is the same and he is able to not worry about his personal life, and just have fun. Although the game is the same everywhere, the people he is surrounded by, are always different. The cultures he has been immersed in, have shaped him into the man he is today. It has taught him to be accepting of all people.

Overall, Constantin Zodl’s life is great now and he loves being in America. He is surrounded by great friends, a tight family, and supportive teachers, in school and in athletics. With all the new possibilities of being in America, Constantin is excited to see what his future has in store for him.
