The Ballet Class

Dega painting poem writing

Teaching classes all day

For money does not grow on trees

One more time I say as the crowd keeps moaning

They have been working since 8

We would be done already if they would point their feet

The counts are simple 5, 6, 7, and 8

Show is in 2 days

No way we will be done in time

No talking, sit up, straight legs and pointed feet

I have told you more than once

No more asking for water

I am dying of thirst myself

Again, again, keep turning

How did I become the bad guy

Good example of what not to do

One more time again

In my poem “The Ballet Class” , I created a story in which the speaker is the dance teacher. The dance teacher is mad because he is tired and no one is doing the steps right. I got this theme by looking at the girl on the piano who is aching and thinking that the dance teacher is saying again, again. I used a few poetic techniques, such as a metaphor. For example in the second line I say “money does not grow on trees”. I also used an  Hyperbole. In the 12th line he says “I’m dying of thirst myself” when he is actually not dying. I used a little rhyme in the 1st and 3rd line. I rhymed day and say. This painting reminds me of my dance classes and how we are all tired and want to go home. I also thought of how whenever a dance teacher says one more time most of the time they don’t mean one more time.

53 Stations of the Tokaido Road

The picture I chose from the 53 stations of the Tokaido Road is of a daimyo coming through a town and everybody making way. I think this relates to the book The Ghost in the Tokaido Inn by in the beginning at the check in on the Tokaido Road when Lord Hakuseki comes and almost stomps on the beggar. I think this reminds me of this because everybody made way for the daimyo the same way that people did in the book. The picture also includes the Nihon bridge where the mystery led to Edo. The Nihon Bridge is in the center of Edo

I learned many things during the 53 stations of the Tokaido road. On stop 1 to 10 I saw many similar wood blocks. For example mountains. In each wood block in that section it included mountains. Another fact that I learned was that the huts in ancient Japan were larger than the bedroom huts in Jomon era. In section 55 the block shows a view of the capital. And the mountains a head of the bridge. I learned that every Japanese person wants to see Kyoto at least once in their life they would have to cross the bridge.

Touring 18th Century Edo

While I was taking the Edo tour a site that interested me was Kajibashi. The town of Kajibashi is where the crafts men of Edo live. The town seems interesting to me because I enjoy making things that I can use in everyday life. I also like making arts and crafts, and block painting seems very entertaining and fun. I learned that everyone is a hard worker and that it takes a lot of people to event and make things. The profession is well respected and makes a good living. Something I learned about being a crafts men is that the workshops are in neighborhoods. For security reasons there are gates to protect the workshops that the materials are made in.

I Am Human

After the assembly this morning I tried to remember some important quotes. One of my favorites is from the song I am but a small voice. The part that made a impact on be was when it said, ” Come young citizens of the world, we are one, we are one.” It made me think how together as a community or as one, we can make a difference in the world if we work together. Another quote that I thought made an impact on me was one of the students quotes. It said, ” Don’t be like everyone else because you were born unique.” I thought it was a great quote for this event. I thought this because, if we were all the same the world would be boring. There would be no adventure. The world would be full of robots. The quotes above changed my thinking of being human. Being human is special and you need to make the most of it.

Mesoamerican Ballgame

The Mayan’s played a ball game that’s like a sport that we play today. The sport basketball incorporates some of the qualities that the Mayan sport had. Such as passing to your team mates and shooting into a basket on the wall. The game is played by hitting a rubber ball into a hole on the wall. You try to hit the rubber ball anywhere on your body except your hands. You pass to your other team mates to get to the hole so that you can shot. This game included a ball. This ball was made out of a liquid called latex that came out of the rubber tree. To make this latex bouncy they added the juice from a morning glory. The ball was used in many different ways such as hitting any part of your body or going through the hole. The ball can go out of bounds. There were many different uniform apparels that you used. Some of the uniform pieces were called hacha’s it is a stone accessory worn on the ballplayers yoke which is stone that you wear on your waist. If you didn’t wear the uniform then most likely you would kill yourself from hitting your body with the heavy rubber ball. The court is in the shape of the capital letter I. It provides end zones so the ball can go out of bounds. There are two walls on either side of the middle of the capital I. Those walls are used to make the ball not go out of bounds and to hold the hole on the wall.

Losing this game will be the last thing the captain of the losing team does. When losing the captain of that team would be sacrificed by cutting off their head. However if you’re won then you would be praised with riches and gratitude from the crowd and from the King and gods. The ball game was made to show the cities power and wealth. When making the ball they would have a special religious ritual. Some people say that the ball was sometimes the losing’s team’s captain’s head which above is a human sacrifice. The ballplayers would wear some of the clothing items in ceremonies before and after the game. Some ball players would wear green jade which is a very precious rock that the Mayan’s used as a sign of wealth. Some people would wear bird headdresses and the color green which also showed wealth. The court was a place to show other cities that their city was not as powerful and wealthy as theirs. Also the benches showed carvings of many of the human sacrifice from of the previous games. Ceremonies were held in the court before and after the game. The Mayan used this as a way to kill war captives. While showing other cities that the Maya was powerful and rich.

Cary Charger Store Activity

Looking back at the charger store activity I think that not only our group but I had many strengths and weaknesses. One of my most used strength that I use when working with my group, was making sure that no one was distracted and that everyone was doing what they were supposed to be doing. I personally think that our group did a great job at working together and discussing the answers that we got. We listen to each other and used at least one of everyone’s questions that the made up in the performance evaluations activity. Four things that I know how to now from this activity is how to add, subtract, multiply and divide decimals. All and all I think that our group did a great job. Even though we had a few disagreements, we worked through them and as a team learned a lot from this activity.

Mesoamerican Cultural Analysis

I believe the Mayans did have extensive trading relationships with other cultures that led to culture diffusion. The Maya Culture most likely had culture diffusion in the Yucatan Peninsula with the Teotihuacan, Mixtec, Toltec and Aztec culture lived because each Civilization crossed timelines. While the Mayans did not cross periods with the Teotihuacán, the Teotihuacán influenced the Mixtec who ultimately would influence the Mayan people. In the Andes Mountains, the Maya more than likely had culture diffusion with the Chimu and the Inca cultures since they were in existence during the same time, but travel across the Gulf of Mexico. They could have had culture diffusion with the Inca and Chimu by trading there culture crafts. Maya could have culture diffusion with all of the cultures because they either existed during the same period of time or, as with the Teotihuacán, they crossed the civilizations period of one that shared the same period.
