Neurologist

The career I chose was a neurologist. A Neurologist is a doctor that works with your nervous system. Whenever your heart beats, you breathe, think, dream, smell, see, move, laugh, or feel something you use your nervous system. Neurologist could diagnose a patient’s sleep disorder by using their brain wave test, eye movement, and breathing data while a sleep test. They can diagnose different disorders, for example using a child’s brain wave data to see if their seizures are from epilepsy or another disorder. They can also tell how bad a car accident victim is injured and see what they should do to best help them recover. Neurologist alsoadminister reflex exams during a neurological examination to see if the nervous system in the patient is damaged.

Education is very important in order to become a Neurologist. Classes in High School include Biology, chemistry, physics, geometry, algebra II, pre-calculus, English and if a choice computer science and physiology, biomedical science, and statistic. Taking a foreign language could also help. In the college education, you need 8 years of education after high school and 3-8 years of residency. This equals to you needing four years of premedical education, four years of medical school, one year of internship, and at least three years of specialty training at a residency program. The least amount of a degree is a professional degree of MD (Doctor of Medicine).  Neurologist must be very observant, kind and empathetic, and analytical they need to be able to communicate with others well and have strong desire to help others.

Someone that is a Neurologist currently would be making $187,200 a year. The US mean annual pay is $42,320. A Neurologist is in demand right now but is grower faster than the average. It will be 20% or more in the future. Which means in 2022 there will be a lot more opportunities to become a Neurologist. This also means that the Neurologist job is growing largely.

A Neurologist has many things they must do during their day. Being a Neurologist you would perform neurological examinations of the nerves in the head and neck and all the other nervous in your body. They can also perform another diagnostic test. For example, a CAT scan, MRI/MRA, Lumbar puncture, EEG, and an EMG/NCV. They measure a patient’s severity and can also come up with the treatment that should be done. Another example of many is performing or interpreting the outcomes of procedure and diagnostic test, for example, the treatments I listed above.

I have a big interest in becoming a Neurologist. The job seems fun and looks like it would never get boring. One of the criteria you must have to become a Neurologist is being able to speak with others which is one of my strong suits I have. I also love helping others so it seems like a great fit for me. Becoming a Neurologist sounds hard and sounds like it will take a lot of work, though I think that I could work extra hard if it is a topic that interests me. The job also pays very well after you get out of debt and are out of residency which will take three to eight years. Another big reason is because I have two connections with people who have had seizures. One of the two sadly does have epilepsy, but the other ended up just banging their head perfectly and causing them to seize.  One question I would ask a Neurologist is if you become a Neurologist are you always on call or ever have any free time to go on trips or spend family time?

In conclusion becoming a Neurologist does sound like a job I might put into consideration in becoming. It sounds fun and exciting.  It does, however, take a lot of hard work, but I think that if I work up to my potential then I can get it done. I now have a lot of respect for Neurologist because I now know how hard they have worked to get where they are today.

Coffee vs. Tea

The story starts with a young coffee that goes by the name of Chip. Chip is visiting his grandmother Cappuccino when she finds an old book about the independence of their beloved country. She was cleaning out her closet when she stumbled upon the book her mother gave her about the independence of Kenya. She had wanted to share this with her grandchildren, but there isn’t one coffee that hasn’t heard the story when coffee beat tea.
“Come here Chip, let me tell you the story of our independence,” said Cappuccino.
“Ugg again grandma, I have heard this so many times,” Chip whined.
“One more time wouldn’t hurt you will it, no so come here sit on my lap and listen.”
“A long time ago before even your mom was alive lived a man named Jomo Kenyatta. He was a powerful believer that thought that coffee should be only for coffee and should never be forgotten. One day tea-
“Tttteeeeaaaa,” yelled chip.
“Yes tea, moving on. Tea started settling into the cabinets of households. At first, they wanted to keep Coffee happy and have the protection of them but one day in 1952 something happened. Fights started happening between the coffee and the tea. Tea started becoming increasingly popular and no one wanted coffee. Coffee was the drink left behind and was the drink no one wanted anymore. Fights that were horrible crashed up all the food inside the cabinet as well as cups and plates that belonged in the Kenya kitchen too.”
“Okay, so let me get this straight tea decided to try to take over coffee, did it work?,” asked Chip.
“I thought you said you’ve heard this before”
“I think I forgot though,” giggled Chip.
“Ha-ha ok.”
“Tea started deporting coffee to other country’s trying to get rid of it so people would really forget about it.”
“Who would ever want to try to get rid of coffee, we are pretty amazing if you ask me,” chip squealed
“Ha-ha, moving on. Different cabinets were hit differently by tea deporting coffee. Some cabinets even started getting mad at the settlers. One cabinet that was hit the hardest and the worst was called the Kikuyu. They had the best cabinets in Kenya Kitchen so the settlers wanted to take over their land. The Kikuyu group were the coffee’s that decided to start a group to fight against the settlers they grew to hate. They lived in the forest cabinet and formed a military with as many coffees as 20,000 from other cabinets. The people of Tea called the group the Mau Mau.”
“Wait, like the card game we played when visiting Brandy in Germany,” asked Chip.
“No, it was what Tea called the Land and Freedom Army, which was what the Mau Mau called themselves.
“Why they call themselves that?” asked Chip.
“Please stop interrupting Chip I’m getting there. They called themselves the Land and Freedom Army after the two goals they had. One, the return of their lands that they thought was theirs, and two, freedom from colonial rule. In the year 1956, the leader of the Mau Mau was hanged. Though this did not stop the Land and Freedom Army. When they decided that they would never give up, something happened in their favor. Tea withdrew from fighting with Kitchen Kenya resulting in Kitchen Kenya being free and no more tea!”
“Wait what happened to Jomo Kenyatta did he, I thought he became president or something?”
“You’re right Chip, Jomo Kenyatta was then released from jail and became the president of Kenya.
“So, did it end happily ever after?” asked Chip.
“I guess it did Chip.” Cappuccino said leaning in to give Chip a kiss on the forehead.
In the end, the coffees got rid of the teas. There was no more fighting between them and now coffee is free and independent.

Dissection Reflection

Today in AMTP we dissected a pig’s heart. My overall impression of doing this dissection was great. I had an amazing time and I was very interested in learning and cutting open different places on the pig’s heart while naming the parts. I was surprised that it didn’t smell as bad as I thought it was going to. Mrs. McCoppin had warned us about the smell and the grossness of the heart but none of the above impacted me at all, which was good. The most interesting part of the dissection for me was getting to cut open the heart and label the different parts of the heart. Now that I know what an Aorta is, it was fun to get to connect the dots with the other arteries and ventricles.  The most difficult part of the dissection for me was listening and watching Mrs. McCoppin do the dissections first. This was hard because I wanted to just go and get started or wanted to do it as she was talking. Though looking back I’m glad I didn’t because I would have not known where to cut and what to exactly do. I think performing heart operation on a real-life human seems like a ton of fun. If I was trained enough to do the procedure I totally would. Knowing that I could save someone’s life by operating on their heart gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. I learned that the Coronary Tendineae are very strong. They were so strong that I could lift the whole heart by only using one Coronary Tendineae string. I don’t have really anything Mrs. McCoppin could improve on, the only thing I could think of is maybe having everyone doing their own heart dissection without partners, but that might not be possible. I’m really excited to be in this class and this dissection opened a new window for me to think about being a surgeon.

Female Engineers

Debbie Sterling a female engineer talked about how she became an engineer. She also talked about how she went through many challenges before just succeeding as an engineer. In her engineer class in college, she was one of the only girls in her class. Debbie Sterling talks about the reason the United States only has 11% women engineers is because girls grow up playing with dolls and princesses. This is because of the culture we come from.

Being engineer means that you invent, create and build anything you can imagine. Though the majority of engineers are men Debbie Sterling still majored in engineering. She keeps repeating in the Ted Talk that she “doesn’t fit it”. Like I said before the majority of engineers are men and to fit she worked extra hard. Debbie Sterling then created a kids toy which incorporated reading and motor skills. In the toy, you create things while following along with the book. Debbie got shut down many times but she never gave up no matter what. Her toy is now selling a lot and helping kids especially girls with understanding engineering at a young age.

3D object Information

I chose the monument Stonehenge. Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire England. Stonehenge was completed slowly. It started 5,000 years ago, Stonehenge is a monument that is full of different size stones to form a circle. The monument added round stones in the center around the year 2500 BC. There are two types of stones used to create Stonehenge. The two consist of sarsen and bluestones. The larger stones are sarsen and the smaller are bluestones. There is a total of 83 stones in Stonehenge.

The monument has become part of the British culture because of its history and being in British literature and art. Though Stonehenge is proved to be part of the Neolithic people’s work. Stonehenge is important to its culture because it’s one of the only circular stone structures in the world, which makes it even more special. The monument is also very important because it is useful in coronations, druid temple and help astronomers figure out eclipses and solar events that happen. It’s a place of worship and healing. Stonehenge is important to me because I have always wanted to go see it. I am interested in old artifacts like old ruins or older monuments like Stonehenge. I chose this monument because of my interest and because of the uniqueness it has. I will be doing the North, South, West, East and the top.



Flatland Movie

Today in class we watched a movie on dimensions. In the movie I learned about 0, 1st, 2nd and 3rd dimension. A dimension is measurement extent such as width, length and height.  Zero dimension is just a point. In the movie it was named point land. There was just one point that connected to nothing. First dimension is a line. In the movie it was called line land. It was a line that could only move side to side. Second dimension is length and width. In the movie it was called flat land. 3rd dimensions was length, width and height which is like a three dimensional object. Dimensions are used in our daily lives as well. A tablet computer is 3 dimensional as well as your water bottle.

Change the World

My group and I worked really well together. In the beginning of the project we split up the work evenly. As soon as we started to work we all started helping each other with the work. We balanced out the work so that no one was doing every thing. Which made it faster and better quality. My favorite part of the project was coming up with questions to interview Rachel Wood a profession soccer player for the Boston Beakers. When she responded I felt really good because having someone that is a professional responding to 3 middle school kids was really cool feeling.

I don’t think I would change anything. My group was amazing and I think we did our very best that we could of done.  Our time management was off the hook and we had stuff done before its due date. Though if I did have to pick something, it would be computer problems which we encountered at the last 48 hours of the project.  Also I’m not a big fan of Wix. We ran into many difficulties with it which made it hard to do our project some time. Wix would delete our work and never saved anything. I think I will always believe strongly in our topic. I hope that by the time I’m working all women not just athletes get paid just as much as men.

 

Income vs. Savings

Today in class I learned what linear and exponential growth is. Linear growth is when your money increases by the same amount every time. You add by the same number each time to equal your outcome. Exponential growth is when your money increases by itself every time. Linear growth does not grow as fast as exponential as seen in my graph my linear growth is a nice steady line as my exponential growth grows up on a slant. Your income is more line linear growth and compound interest grows just like exponential does. Compound grows faster as time goes on and grows faster and faster as the time goes by. For linear growth is like income because you are basically getting the same amount of money every yearincome-vs-savings
