37 days
It all started with the question How does the different consumptions of nutrients from food affect your health in the long run? We have come so far. We have turned an idea into a reality. This is how it happened.
The first day of health we watched videos and filled in notes. The video was long and quite frankly I was a little confused. But at the end of the video Coach, Shaw went over all the answers and what they meant. Which was wonderful, because now I can identify and explain Nutrients, carbohydrates, saturated and unsaturated fats, and so much more.
We had a practice quiz that I wasn’t there for, but instead, I studied my notes and went over them and over them for “homework”. That week we watched a video about kids suffering micronutrients. The want to be able to send rescue missions in third world countries, giving kids food packages and helping them become healthy again. Within a week after learning about malnutrition and macronutrients, we started with making individual group sways about 3 to 4 different topics. I was one of the groups with macronutrients. I was reminded of the food pyramid. In my opinion, the food pyramid is a great way to visually see the healthy amounts a food that should be eaten.
Then a really cool nutritionist named Miss. Eisbeis came in and talked to us about the amount of sugar that is found in our favorite drinks. Including my favorite drink like Bojangles Ice Tea.
After we created our sways we presented them to the class and in my opinion, I thought it was pretty cool to see how other groups choose to talk about their projects. I learned more about UNICEF’s strategic plan and acute malnutrition.
This is where It gets super cool. We came together and started brainstorming groups that could help us answer the question How does the different consumptions of nutrients from food affect your health in the long run? We thought of groups like swayologist, producers, surveyors, and more. We also talked about what they did. In my opinion, it was fun to pick your own group. I picked producers with Kendal, and Chailyn and we started brainstorming right away. We came up with interviews and a short film.
The next week we started right away with interview questions. Unfortunately, one of my group members wouldn’t let me do any work, so I decided to send an email to Michelle Obama because as first lady her project is kids health. It only took me one class period and I used a grammar checking site because I have bad grammar. I checked every day but I guess she is busy doing something else.
Also this week we started blogs. In my opinion, I think it was kind of hard because I didn’t know if it was too much or too little. But I managed to do really well.
After a couple weeks my group finished interviewing both Mr. Raskeviz and Miss. Davenport. We also finished a short film asking students about their health.
That week for homework was a pretty lengthy assignment about what groups should do what when it comes to sharing our project with the community. It was pretty hard to relate what the group was doing and how they could help share it with the community.
So the past few weeks we have been saying announcements at lunch, hall meetings, and faculty meetings. We came up with two contest that worked very well. We had a yammer contest to see who has the best logo, which wasn’t really successful. We also did this cool ten-day challenge to see what people are eating and how much of it. Miss. Shipps table won and they got table side tacos.
As this project comes to an end I hope that the ten-day challenge will stick and we can decrease the number of obese people in America. That’s all for now. Bye!!!!!
