Extra Credit

Band Extra Credit Opportunities – 2016-17   

There is no limit to how many points of extra credit can be earned.  However, only 5 points may be applied to the trimester average.  New this year – points beyond 5 may be used to raise the Participation Average.

Points Extra Credit Activity
0.5 each Attend a musical performance (rock concert, pep band, musical theater, dinner music, piano recital, etc.)
0.5 each Review a favorite piece of music and include a link so Mr. Grush can hear.
1 Attend a live musical performance and write a review.  Include at least 3 specific skills you can identify that the performer has mastered.
1 CA evening performance (If you did NOT perform) Band, Chorus, Dance, Orchestra, Variety Show, etc.
1 Listen to 3 different rehearsal recordings (of the same piece) and reflect on at least 3 specific skills we have improved.  Also give advice on what more we can do to improve.
1 MS Jazz Band
1 Reflect on your individual progress this trimester including at least 3 specific skills you have improved.
1 Take more than one US music class (band, jazz, orchestra, chorus)
1 Tutor someone else on playing your band instrument.  Write a reflection and include at least 3 specific skills that the student has improved.
1 US Drumline
1 each Private lessons (on any musical instrument)
1 each Record and submit music of the student’s choosing (with or without background accompaniment)
1 each Transfer an old band video tape (VHS, Hi8, or mini DV) to WMV format
1 each Write a piece of music using Soundation, Noteflight, or another tool of your choosing
1 each Youth Ensemble (choir, handbells, jazz band, etc.) that rehearses weekly and performs once a trimester
2 Performing with US Band class (MS w/US Band, Jazz w/ US Band, etc.)
2 each Watch movie and blog during a Band Movie Afternoon
3 Participate in the NCAIS Honor Band
3 Read Book and attend one Discussion Group – Film Music: A Very Short Introduction
Varies Be a student leader (President, Student Director, Secretary, Librarian, Section Leader)
